I think that more care was put into MK2 than MK3. well.MK2 fanatic here, I played that game to the point of madness back then. And since Kiki Kai Kai and Pocky & Rocky do not have automatic scrolling. I always thought the main thing that separated "regular" shmups from the "run and guns" were automatic scrolling. Well, by that logic Shock Troopers could be classified as a shmup too. So I end up opening scores boards for every versions of Pocky & Rocky. But everyone are asking wether they could post their scores for the console versions. I originally open the thread for posting the Acrade version score. Well, the Acrade (PCB) version of Pocky & Rocky play much more like Out Zone. Yes, the SFC version is not that challaging and could barely be classified as shmups. Here's my best score so far (in 2):ĭoes this game actually qualify as a shmup?Īnd if it does, then can we have a Shock Troopers high score thread? The other was the slide in the first game, which had very limited use due to its fixed length and speed, and the dreaded 'pause' after the slide finished.Īnyway, what was I going to post about before I started compiling reasons I disliked P&R1 compared to 2. in fact, maybe a bit TOO powerful, as it has too much priority. In the second game the attack is much cleaner. The result was, at least in the SNES version, that you had to plan ahead when wanting to use it (I think the enemy will fire at me now, so I should use the attack) rather then using it on reflex. The melee attack is a great idea and definetly needed at parts, but in the first game it was very difficult to use, as it 1) had to be charged up, resulting in a very annoying sound effect, 2) had a short lag between releasing the key and starting the attack, and 3) poor priority. The largest two flaws I saw in the gameplay itself of P&R the first were the melee attack and the slide. However, looking at the root of the gameplay, Pocky's basic controls, this game is much improved. Well of course, you're right, those additions, especially the partner, differentiate the game quite a bit. The former is a bit more "traditional," for lack of a better word, while the second tosses a lot of oddball stuff in there (money, buyable items, partner who can't be permanently killed, "throwing" attack, etc.)." "I wouldn't necessarily say 's quite a bit different from the first one, it's kinda tough to compare the two. Copies is till being sold at .jp for 1,500 yen.Ī Pocky & Rocky Mobile Telephone game.
